The brand’s Mark Cross and it claims to be America’s first luxury leather goods brand. Which, depending on which side of the fence you’re on, is something you’ll either agree with, or have a trio of question marks in a row. Still, today’s post isn’t about debating on its claims, but rather, this cute little number simply known as the Rattan Shoulder.

Made in Italy, featuring pebble grained leather on a woven rattan body with cotton twill that’s part of the lining, there’s just something about it that oozes summery picnic vibes, a small adorable bag that just makes you want to carry it as you have some fun in the sun.

Big enough for your bare essentials (no, that 1 litre water bottle you carry to yoga is not an essential), think small wallet, one or two lippies, a pair of shades and you’re good to go. Measuring some 25 cm by 18 cm, use the bag with or without its removable sling or just carry it via its leather top handle.

Model Gigi Hadid and photographer Mert Alas (one half of Mert & Marcus) make a denim duo on the Spring 2017 cover of The Daily Front Row. Alas captured the black and white image where they both rock white tees and distressed jeans. Inside the magazine, Gigi flaunts some serious skin in the cover look styled by Haley Wollens. The model showcases her famous golden locks in messy yet sexy waves with a radiant makeup look.

In her interview, Gigi talks about working with Mert. They previously worked together for a DSquared2 campaign and Vogue Paris shoot. “I feel confident in every second of working with him. Mert knows, specifically, what makes his subjects feel sexy. He knows how to make someone feel comfortable and sexy at the same time. A lot of times, you have a very different vision of how you look beautiful to the photographer who is shooting you. With Mert, he always puts out the picture of my vision of how I look beautiful.”

You’re not the only one if you think this bag’s silhouette is a tad familiar (no, I shan’t say more) but it does come with elements from Mulberry we’ve grown familiar in the last couple of years. Yes, the man behind this bag, and many other new creations like the Clifton and Cherwell, is Johnny Coca, who was previously working on leather goods for more than 15 years at brands like Céline and Louis Vuitton. And while he hasn’t quite created his very own ‘it’ bag as yet, you’ve got to give the man credit for trying, and this includes the new season Pembroke that’s the focus of today’s post.

Looking like a straightforward rectangular bag from the front, turn it to the side and the magic happens. Yes, the sides are shaped like an accordion, which simply means more room when you need it. Twist the ‘key’ on the lock and the bag opens to a lush suede lining with two equally-sized compartments placed front to back, separated by a zipped pocket in the centre. Want more? There’s a slip pocket at the back that provides quick access to your cards.

Another point of interest is the strap, in a braided pattern that’s done in the same colours that the bag’s body comes in. Finished with gold-tone hardware, all in all, it’s pretty chic. Retailing for GBP1240 online over on Mulberry, it should also be available in Singapore by now. And if this colour combination doesn’t exactly do it for you, do note that it also comes in Burgundy/Lemon, striped and another in embossed croc.

Common Projects Original Achilles Leather Sneaker

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks. You know, the cool ones with the pristine white sneaks, crisp white tee, black jogger topped with a cap, it’s almost like a uniform of sorts that only those in the know, know. And that white pair of sneakers is almost always from Common Projects, the be-all and end-all holy grail as far as sneakerheads are concerned.

Why? For one, the label’s shoes are clean and minimalist, with the Achillessneaker (their signature staple) in a simple silhouette that was originally launched in leather. Then there are those 10 gold-stamped digits (the first four numbers representing the style code, the middle two its size and the last four being its colour code) that have become its unofficial official logo over time.

Also, when they were first launched (and this was way before luxury brands were doing sneakers), they courted controversy with a starting price point of USD265 (it’s almost USD400 a pair now), but its quality finish and sleek good looks slowly grew on customers and the demand caught on, with the rest as they say, history.

The brand has since gone on to create sneakers for the ladies (named Woman by Common Projects) that come in smaller silhouettes/sizes for the fairer sex. And if you want to get yourself a pair now (or add on new season offerings to your collection, here’s some good news.

The Original Achilles Leather Sneaker is now available online via Dover Street Market Singapore, where it is retailing at SGD616 and SGD630 for mens’ and womens’ styles respectively. And besides its iconic white sneaker, other colours for the ladies include Black, Light Grey and Powder Blue. For the boys, they’ve got everything except Light Grey.

Besides DSMS, you could also check out END, MATCHESFASHION and Mr Porter, where prices are generally lower although you might have to keep an eye on the current exchange rates (and accompanying shipping and tax duties) before you commit because they usually only show up when you hit the checkout button.
